Thanks!
From 10.6.2 it's easy to upgrade to 10.6.8 if you install the offline update and install a legacy kernel and 3 kexts, then set/fix permissions before you reboot. (IOUSBFamily 10.6.4, IOUSBMassStorageClass, and IOACPIFamily) Btw, everyone reading this should go get an 8gb stick & dl iPortable Snow persistant live osx86 usb image-it's Just like a linux liveCD. Copy from within iportable, the "OSx86 Hackintosh Tools" directory, you'll appreciate the redundancy and variety of these utilities/drivers. You can repair/rebuild/offline defrag from it, even. Btw, cloning your HD from the iportable usb drive and repairing permissions works, too, on the aw9d-max w/o any configuration and gives you the hw detection/configuration on every boot like a live image does. I'm not sure what all is different, but it has more thorough detection and kext loading for finicky things like hyperthreading on p4 boxes. 2b1af7f3a8
